Gas plants using differential pressure mass flowmeters, on vapour or non-liquefied gas lines, need flow numbers corrected for real gas behaviour, not just a simple DP-to-flow conversion. The Contrec 515 GC03 Ideal Gas Flow Computer is built for this, working with single or stacked DP mass flowmeter transmitters using the meter’s own calibrated span.
It runs the standard DP flow equations while accounting for the primary element’s own reference calibration conditions, and resolves gas density and compressibility in real time using standard equations of state, so the actual gas quantity is worked out correctly rather than assumed. Stacked DP inputs extend the measurable flow range while keeping low-flow accuracy intact, which matters on lines with wide turndown.
In actual application, this unit usually sits out on process plant rather than in a control room, so it comes in a weatherproof IP65 housing with a backlit alphanumeric LCD and a keypad built for field use. It also has an adjustable 8-24V DC sensor supply, isolated 4-20mA loop retransmission, and dual RS-232/RS-485 Modbus RTU ports for integration into plant automation networks.
Before we quote this, we would normally check your DP mass flowmeter’s calibrated span, your gas composition, and your line pressure and temperature.
Hope this helps.
