West 8170+ VMD & Temperature Single Loop Controller
Motorized valve control has a habit of chewing through actuators — constant hunting and stepping wears out valves, contactors, and relays long before their time. The West 8170+ is a single-loop controller purpose-built for open-loop valve motor drive (VMD) applications in a 1/8 DIN format, using 3-point stepping control tuned to settle quickly without the constant back-and-forth.
How It Works
Pre-tune and self-tune work together to find the right control response for the valve and process, then trim output activity to the minimum needed to hold setpoint. In practice that means far fewer valve movements per minute and a controller that reaches stable control noticeably faster than a fixed-parameter setup. Beyond the VMD outputs, spare outputs can be configured for alarms, a 24VDC transmitter power supply, or retransmission of process value or setpoint.
