The Setra Model 278 is a barometric pressure transducer built for remote environmental monitoring, where power is often limited. It uses Setra’s SETRACERAM ceramic sensing element, which holds accuracy across a wide operating temperature range, and it has small pluggable terminal blocks built in for quick, easy wiring on site.
In actual application, the low power and sleep mode features are what make this one work well off-grid. Current draw drops dramatically during idle periods, which is exactly what a solar-powered weather station or remote data buoy needs, and sleep mode still allows a fast startup and reading when it’s time to take a measurement.
From our experience, the ceramic sensing element genuinely performs better than the stainless steel diaphragms used in older barometric transducers, with better temperature stability, lower hysteresis, and more accurate readings. Installation is compact too: the mounting holes fit industry-standard grid systems, which saves cabinet space and cuts down on install time.
