We had an enquiry from a customer with an old servo system who needed a replacement resolver, quoting the Hengstler BRX series (also known in the market as a “Smartsyn” type resolver). This is one of those requests where we need to be upfront with the customer before we can quote anything.
This looks simple, but the BRX series no longer appears on Hengstler’s or Dynapar’s current product websites, and every datasheet link we could find for it (including an old Hengstler.de PDF link) is now dead. Hengstler’s resolver range has gone through changes over the years under the Dynapar/Harowe/NorthStar group of brands, and older Smartsyn-type part numbers like the BRX are often replaced by a current equivalent, such as the R25 or R56 housed resolver series, or a frameless resolver depending on the application.
In actual application, a resolver like the BRX is normally used for rotor position feedback on a servo or brushless motor. But without a live, current datasheet to check against, we are not comfortable quoting exact specifications (voltage, accuracy, temperature rating, mounting) from memory or from old records, since we’ve seen old figures on other Hengstler resolver pages turn out to be wrong once checked properly.
From our experience, before we quote this, we would normally ask the customer for a photo of the nameplate or the exact part number stamped on the resolver, plus the motor/application it’s fitted to, and then check with Hengstler/Dynapar directly on whether the BRX is still supported or what the current replacement part is.
