The customer told us their winch encoder kept getting washed out during the boat’s regular deck wash-down, and they needed something that could survive high-pressure cleaning and salt exposure without extra housing modifications. The Hengstler ACURO AR62 is built for this kind of maritime and heavy-outdoor duty.
This looks simple, but “rugged” is backed by real numbers here – the AR62 takes 300 N of axial and radial shaft load, 200 g shock and 20 g vibration, and is rated up to IP69K, which means it’s built to survive high-pressure and steam-jet cleaning, not just splashing. It’s also DNV approved for maritime applications. Like the AR60, it uses magnetic sensing with a wear-free, battery-less electronic multi-turn count, so there’s no gearbox or battery to fail in a hard-to-reach mounting position.
In actual application, the AR62 gives up to 28-bit combined resolution, runs on SSI, CANopen or Analog interface, and is rated across a broad -40°C to +100°C range with 32 mm mounting depth in an aluminium housing. It’s commonly used on wind turbines, ships, commercial vehicles, presses, wood-processing machinery and stone masonry equipment – anywhere the encoder is exposed to the elements or heavy mechanical shock.
From our experience, before we quote this, we would normally check the interface your controller needs (SSI, CANopen or Analog), the shaft loading at the mounting point, and whether IP69K wash-down resistance is actually required for your environment. Hope this helps.
