We had an enquiry from a customer who wanted to log counter data straight into a laptop during commissioning, without buying a separate USB-to-serial adapter or messing with driver installs for an old RS232 port.
This is where the plain vanilla version of a multifunctional counter falls short. Hengstler’s TICO 773 is built around a USB interface instead, so it plugs straight into a PC, and Hengstler’s own programming assistant software runs on MS Windows without extra hardware in between. Like the rest of the family, it has a large LCD display with four selectable backlighting colours, counts pulses at up to 60 kHz, and the prescaler runs from 0.0001 to 99.9999, so the display can show the real unit of measure instead of a raw pulse count.
From our experience, before we quote this, we would normally check the supply voltage at the panel, the pulse signal type from the sensor or encoder, and whether the customer’s PC and software setup actually needs USB rather than RS232, since that is the main difference between this and the other counters in the family.
