We had an enquiry from a customer with an old mechanical counter on a bottling line. It only had one preset, so every batch that needed a two-stage count, run then slow down, meant an extra relay or timer bolted on beside it, and the panel was getting crowded.
This looks simple, but there is a bit more to it than just picking any digital counter. Hengstler’s TICO 772 is a multifunctional electronic counter with three presets built in, so a single unit can handle staged counting without extra hardware. The display is LCD with four selectable backlighting colours, useful if you want a quick visual cue for different machine states, and it is large and easy to read from a distance. It counts pulses at up to 60 kHz, and the prescaler goes from 0.0001 to 99.9999, so the display can show the real unit of measure instead of a raw pulse count. It is also UL listed, which matters if the panel is heading to a site that needs that certification.
From our experience, before we quote this, we would normally check the supply voltage available at the panel, the type of pulse signal from the sensor or encoder, and how many presets the application actually needs. Hope this helps.
