We had an enquiry from a customer with a fairly generic industrial motion setup, a CNC axis, who just needed a solid, reliable incremental encoder without any special hazardous area or Ethernet requirement, but wanted flexibility in flange and connector type since their machine builder kept changing mounting details.
Hengstler’s ICURO RI58 fits this kind of job well. It is a universal industrial incremental encoder rated up to 40,000 steps with 10,000 lines, with a high degree of signal accuracy, and it is available in many flange and connection options so it fits most standard industrial mounting arrangements. It is IP67 rated and suitable for high shock loads, and is commonly used on machine tools, CNC axes, packaging machines, motors and drives, injection moulding machines, and sawing machines. If the application is in a hazardous area, Hengstler’s RX70-71 series is the one to look at instead, not this one. A high-temperature RI58-T variant is also available, rated up to 100°C.
From our experience, before we quote this, we would normally check the exact flange and shaft type needed, the connector or cable exit required, the resolution (lines/PPR), and whether the standard or high-temperature version is needed. The RI58 family has several sub-variants (flange/connector combinations), so we would confirm the exact variant with you before finalising the datasheet and manual references. Hope this helps.
