  • User-friendly keypad with dedicated operating keys
  • Automatic batch overrun compensation
  • Supports single-stage and dual-stage valve control
  • Configurable as a Rate Totaliser
  • Optional RS232 and RS485 communication
  • Available with DC or AC power supply options
  • IP65 (NEMA 4X) front panel protection
  • Compatible with a wide range of flowmeter signal types

Flexible Flow Measurement Compatibility

The 434 Batch Controller accepts a wide variety of pulse and frequency input signals, making it suitable for many industrial flowmeter technologies. Supported inputs include:

  • Turbine flowmeters
  • Frequency pulse outputs
  • Millivolt (mV) turbine sensor signals
  • Two-wire proximity switch outputs
  • Other compatible pulse-generating flow sensors

This broad compatibility allows easy integration into both new and existing process control systems.

Clear Display and Simple Operation

A large backlit LCD continuously displays important process information in engineering units, including:

  • Batch Total
  • Flow Rate
  • Accumulated Total
  • Preset Batch Quantity

The front panel features four dedicated operating keys together with a full numeric keypad, allowing operators to enter batch quantities and control production without complicated programming quickly.

Batch operations include:

  • Start
  • Pause
  • Resume
  • Stop
  • Reset

The straightforward interface minimizes operator training while improving productivity.

Easy Batch Quantity Programming

Setting a batch quantity is fast and simple.

Operators press the Batch Set key, enter the required quantity using the numeric keypad, and confirm the value to return to operating mode.

The preset batch quantity is securely stored in non-volatile memory, ensuring it remains unchanged even during power interruptions until intentionally modified.

During an active batch, operators can instantly view the preset quantity without interrupting the process.

Intelligent Automatic Overrun Compensation

The 434 Batch Controller incorporates an intelligent Automatic Overrun Compensation system that continuously analyzes previous batch cycles.

Using historical batching data, the controller automatically adjusts valve shutoff timing to compensate for product overrun caused by valve closing delays or process inertia.

This advanced feature helps improve batch accuracy while reducing product waste and maintaining consistent production quality.

Flexible Batch Operation

Start Batch

Press the RUN key to begin a new batch.

Depending on the selected operating mode, the controller can either:

  • Count upward from zero
  • Count downward from the preset batch quantity

The illuminated status LEDs provide clear confirmation of the current operating condition.

Pause or Stop Batch

Batch operations may be paused at any time by pressing the STOP key.

Operators can:

  • Resume the batch by pressing RUN
  • Cancel the batch by pressing STOP again

Dedicated LED indicators clearly show whether the controller is running, paused, or stopped.

Reset Batch

The controller supports two reset methods.

Manual Reset—The operator resets the batch after completion by pressing the RESET key.

Automatic Reset—When Auto Reset is enabled, the controller automatically prepares the next batch whenever the RUN key is pressed, reducing operator intervention and improving workflow efficiency.

Single or Dual-Stage Valve Control

Two programmable relay outputs allow the 434 to control either single-stage or dual-stage valve systems.

The primary relay activates at the beginning of the batch and switches off when batching is complete.

The secondary relay can be independently programmed to:

  • Delay valve opening after batch start
  • Close before batch completion

This staged control provides smooth flow acceleration and deceleration, reducing hydraulic shock while improving batching accuracy.

Rate Totaliser Function

In addition to batch control, the 434 can be configured to operate as a Rate Totaliser.

When operating in this mode:

  • The display toggles between flow rate and resettable total
  • The accumulated total remains accessible at any time
  • Batch operation keys are disabled since batching functions are not required

This flexibility allows a single instrument to perform multiple process measurement roles.

Communication and Data Logging

Optional RS232 and RS485 communication interfaces enable seamless integration with supervisory control systems, PLCs, computers, and industrial printers.

Remote communication capabilities include:

  • Full controller operation from a computer
  • Batch monitoring
  • Parameter configuration
  • Data collection

The printer interface supports automatic ticket printing with:

  • Date and time
  • Sequential batch or delivery number
  • Batch total
  • Accumulated total
  • Optional custom ticket header

These features simplify production record keeping and improve process traceability.

Durable Industrial Design

Designed for demanding industrial environments, the 434 Batch Controller is available with flexible power supply options:

  • 14–28 VDC
  • 110–220 VAC

The front panel is rated IP65 (NEMA 4X), providing excellent protection against dust, water, and exposure to many industrial chemicals.

The standard model is supplied for panel mounting, while optional field-mount enclosures are available for outdoor or remote installations.

Engineering Unit Conversion

An integrated engineering unit conversion feature allows users to display flow rate and totalized volume in different measurement units.

For example:

  • Flow Rate: Gallons per minute (GPM)
  • Total Volume: Barrels

This capability provides greater flexibility for facilities that operate using multiple measurement standards.

Applications

The 434 Batch Controller is ideal for a wide range of industrial batching and flow control applications, including:

  • Chemical processing
  • Water and wastewater treatment
  • Food and beverage manufacturing
  • Fuel and lubricant dispensing
  • Pharmaceutical production
  • Industrial liquid transfer
  • Process automation
  • General flow measurement systems
