FineTek FDX Series Magnetic Float Level Switch

FineTek FDX Series Magnetic Float Level Switch

Need several level alarms but only one entry point into the vessel? The FineTek FDX Series top-mounted magnetic float level switch delivers exactly that, packing multiple switch points into a single mounting connection — a more cost-effective answer than installing separate sensors for each alarm level.

How It Works

The FDX runs on buoyancy and magnetism. Each float is sized by volume and weight to match a specific minimum fluid density and carries its own magnet. Reed switches built into the stationary stem correspond to each float’s position: as a float’s magnet reaches its reed switch, the contacts open or close, then reverse state again as the magnet moves away.

Key Features

  • Multiple switch points through a single mounting connection
  • Floats matched to fluid density from 0.45 S.G.
  • Sealed reed switch contacts — no external power needed
  • Stainless steel or engineering plastic construction
  • A cost-effective alternative to multi-sensor installations

Applications

  • High, low, and intermediate level switching in tanks and vessels
  • Wide range of liquids with minimum density of 0.45 S.G.
  • Multi-point level control from one entry point

Industries Served

  • Water and wastewater
  • Chemical
  • Marine use
  • General industry
Fine-Tek FDX Magnetic Float Level Switch
● GENERAL DESCRIPTION
TypeMagnetic float level switch (reed-switch actuated)
Working PrincipleA permanent magnet is sealed inside a float ball that rides up/down a stem (tube). When the float’s internal magnet approaches the reed switch inside the stem, it actuates the reed switch contact, opening or closing a circuit (N.O. / N.C.) to indicate liquid level. No external power is required to actuate the switch.
Product Family CoveredFD-series magnetic float level switches, order-coded under the “FDX1-” numbering system: Standard flange/screw type (FD B), side/vertical-adjustment/top-mounting types (FD E, FD C, FD D), explosion-proof enclosure type (FD K, FD7 D/N), and marine-grade approved type (FH / FM). All variants share the same float/reed-switch working principle and differ by housing, mounting, connection, and certification options (see ORDERING INFORMATION).
Contact Life ExpectancyUp to 2,000,000 actuations per contact
Housing Protection RatingIP65 minimum (standard); IP66 for explosion-proof enclosure variants
Multi-Point MeasurementMultiple float / multiple contact points available (custom-made); all output wiring terminates in a single junction box (housing) to simplify external wiring
Typical ApplicationsShipbuilding, generator facilities, petrochemical, food/beverage, waste water / water purification, electronics, dyeing and finishing, chemical, rubber/plastic, hydraulic industries

S10 float resistance: 50 kg. Detailed multi-chemical / multi-concentration resistance charts (PVC, PP, PVDF, PTFE, NBR, SUS304/316 vs. specific chemicals, concentrations and temperatures) are provided in the source datasheet as a graphical excellent/good/fair/corroded matrix; the symbol values were not reliably text-extractable and are omitted here — refer to the original PDF (pages 4–5) for chemical-specific compatibility.
Selection Guidance: PVDF max. 120°C; PP max. 80°C; SUS304/316 max. 200°C. Max. pressure of plastic floats is 5 kg/cm² (SUS floats 35 kg/cm²; S10 floats up to 50 kg/cm²). Use plastic float for acid/alkaline chemical corrosion; PVDF float is noted for high-temperature corrosive cases. Use stainless steel floats for gasoline, fuel oil, and petroleum applications. Float S.G. must be smaller than the liquid S.G., otherwise buoyancy cannot lift the float. For high-viscosity liquids, choose a smaller S.G. float with a greater diameter.
