FineTek SP Series Thermal Dispersion Flow Switch
The FineTek SP Series thermal dispersion flow switch keeps watch over liquid flow and trips a switch output the moment flow drops below a set point — a straightforward way to protect machinery and confirm process flow without any moving parts to maintain. It’s offered in several versions with a choice of insertion lengths, materials, and output types, including an explosion-proof variant for hazardous areas.
How It Works
The SP uses two temperature sensors to detect flow through heat transfer. One sensor floats at the fluid’s ambient temperature as a reference, while the other is heated with a constant amount of power. Flowing liquid carries heat away from the heated sensor, narrowing the temperature gap between the two — and once that gap falls below the adjustable setpoint, the switch confirms flow is present. When flow slows or stops, cooling drops off and the temperature gap widens again.
