Contrec 515 Steam Flow Computer – SC01 Application
The Contrec 515 Series with SC01 application is a precise steam flow computer that accurately measures the volume, mass flow, and energy content of steam. It works by integrating frequency volume flow input with analog temperature and/or pressure inputs, providing reliable measurements for both superheated and saturated steam in challenging industrial steam applications.
With various selectable operating modes, the Contrec 515 steam energy calculator is perfect for many steam systems. It supports different flowmeter frequency outputs, including millivolt signals, reed switches, Namur proximity switches, and pulse trains, all easily configurable through the device’s user-friendly smart front-panel programming.
Following the IAPWS Industrial Formulation (1997), the Contrec 515 accurately calculates mass flow and energy flow based on the thermodynamic properties of steam. By utilizing real-time pressure and temperature inputs, it determines specific volume and specific enthalpy for precise energy calculations.
Steam Energy Calculations (IAPWS 1997)
Superheated steam range:
0°C < t < 800°C, P < 100 MPa
32°F < t < 1472°F, P < 14,500 psia
800°C < t < 2000°C, P < 10 MPa
1472°F < t < 3632°F, P < 1450 psia
Saturated steam range:
0°C < t < 374°C (critical temperature)
32°F < t < 705°F
P < 22 MPa (critical pressure)
P < 3190 psia
Water region:
0°C < t < t saturation at system pressure
32°F < t < t saturation at system pressure
Formulas Used by Contrec 515
Mass flow = Volume flow ÷ Specific volume
