We had an enquiry from a customer retrofitting a brushless servo motor where the panel space behind the motor was very shallow, so a standard resolver’s mounting depth would have fouled the coupling.
This is a common problem once you move to brushless servo motors, since the resolver has to sit right behind the motor. Hengstler’s R11 series is a heavy-duty housed resolver with one of the shortest mounting depths in the industry, so it fits into tight servo motor housings without redesigning the coupling. It is brushless by construction, which pairs naturally with brushless servo motors, and it uses precision bearings that need no maintenance over the life of the unit. It is rated up to 125°C, and radiation-hardened versions are available for applications that need it. From our experience, before we quote this, we would normally check the mounting depth available behind the motor, the speed, or number of poles, the resolver needs to match, and the accuracy grade the drive requires, since the R11 is offered in several winding and speed configurations.
