We had an enquiry from a customer running motors on an outdoor gantry crane who needed absolute position feedback that could survive heavy vibration, temperature swings, and the occasional wash-down, without the electronics failing every few months.
This is exactly the kind of application a standard encoder struggles with. They are built for high shock and vibration, and connect through standard MS-style connectors in either flange-mount or servo-mount styles, so they fit straight onto existing motor frames. Because a resolver has no electronics inside the sensor itself, just windings, it is inherently more tolerant of heat, vibration, and electrical noise than an optical or magnetic encoder, which is why this family is still the first choice for the toughest mounting locations. Accuracy runs from about ±7 to ±20 arc-minutes depending on the exact model.
From our experience, before we quote this, we would normally check the mounting style needed, flange or servo, the connector type and location, and the exact accuracy grade the application calls for, since a tighter accuracy spec usually costs more and is not always necessary. Hope this helps.
